Big weekend for Hailey softball league

All-Star game, city tournament set in Hailey


The Hailey Coed Softball League will wrap up its 21st slow-pitch season at Lion's Park this weekend with the league All-Star game and double-elimination city tournament.

All-Star action starts today, Friday, at 6 p.m. with these All-Star players divided into two teams—a selection process to begin when everybody shows up at the park. By position:

Outfielders—Greg Edwards, Hoss Schmidt, Jeff Burrell, Ryan Stavros, Dani Stone, Anna Edwards, Megan Mitchell Balis and Lacey Peterson. Extra hitters—Tom Anderson, T.J. Peterson, Bobbi Edwards and Amanda Black.

Infielders—Morgan Uhrig, Kellen Chatterton, Sean Harrington, Kenny Nelson, Jamie Stone, Tina Murphy, Kim Meyers and JonMarie Shaw. Pitchers—Mike Beall and Richard Ulrich. Catchers—Jimberly Rooney and a player to be named.

The two-day city tournament at Lion's Park opens Saturday, July 25, at 8 a.m. with #4 Cowboy Cochina/Wise Guy Pizza playing the #5-seeded team. Next at 9:30 a.m. is #3 Hailey Hotel vs. the #6-seeded team. Playing at 11 a.m. is Wicked Spud/Bradley vs. the #7-seeded team. Starting its quest at 12:30 p.m. is #1-seeded LDE Electric/Little Wood vs. #8-seeded Power Engineers.

Final game Saturday is at 5 p.m. followed by the home run derby. Games pick up Sunday at 8 a.m. and continue through the 5 p.m. championship. Last year, Smith Sport Optics beat Hailey Hotel 10-6 in the finale.
